Delicate landscape paintings

Delicate landscape paintings

Hello my flower loving friends,
Whilst I’m waiting for the sun to come out and dry out our soggy lawn so I can start lifting turf, I thought I’d do something lovely indoors inspired by my countryside walks. I have created a few little paintings in calming tones with a nod to vintage art. The three shown above are on tiny canvases which are so cute!
I love creating depth through textures and subtle details, and favour a muted palette in sepia inspired tones reminiscent of an old watercolour found during treasure hunting at flea markets in France. There is a nod of nostalgia to this new series of work as I hanker after the simple darling buds of may days from my childhood which was largely spent picnicking somewhere lovely at every opportunity when the sun shone. I think as I’m planning the garden I still have the design style strongly influenced by my childhood. A working garden where sweet peas ramble and veggies grow amongst the flowers.
As I sit and paint, my thoughts often turn to all the garden plans I’ve been making, I keep tweaking them in my mind and I’m desperate now to just get started!
The above watercolour is on a lovely heavy handmade rag paper and is of a scene from my memory of rolling countryside. I’ll often paint using the emotions of a place rather than an actual real vista, I enjoy soaking up the atmosphere to capture the sense of time.
I love combining my art, ceramics and vintage with the gardening side of my business, they work so well together which is something that has happened organically over the years. Semi abstract landscapes sit with botanical ceramics and cut flowers in the most beautiful way.
I’ll be opening my online store shortly and if you are subscribed to my free newsletter you’ll be notified as soon as it’s live and whenever new collections are launched so it’s worth doing.
Before I go I just wanted to mention I’ll be exhibiting with The Dorset Brocante this coming May bank holiday 5th/6th 2024 it would be lovely to see you!
You can also see a small selection of my work at Woburn Mosaic, Woburn in Bedfordshire, please visit their website for opening times.
